Understanding and configuring minimum request thresholds and budget allocation strategies can significantly enhance financial control within Capexplan. This guide covers:
- Setting minimum Capex request amounts per currency and category
- Choosing between top-down and bottom-up budget allocation methods
1. Set Minimum Amount Request to Field
This feature allows you to define a minimum financial threshold for CapEx (and OpEx) requests. It ensures that only significant and valid capitalisable expenses are submitted for approval.
- Navigate to the General Settings panel.

- Locate the Set Minimum Amount Request to the field.

- You can set a minimum amount per currency (e.g., GBP, USD).

- If a user submits a request below this threshold, the system will flag it and display an alert.
- You can set the minimum amount to zero if no threshold is required.
- If the minimum for GBP is set to £1,500, any request under that will be rejected.

Supports Subcategories
- You can configure different minimums for:

- CapEx
- OpEx
- Other custom categories (e.g., Lease)
2. Budget Allocation Types: Top-Down vs Bottom-Up
Capex Plan allows you to choose how budgets are allocated within projects and envelopes. You can select between two methods:

🔹 Top-Down Budgeting
- You start by setting the total budget for the envelope or project.
- Then, you allocate this budget to the components (projects or standalones).
- The sum of the parts must match the overall budget.
🔹 Bottom-Up Budgeting
- You start by assigning budgets to individual components (standalones).
- The total budget for the project or envelope is calculated automatically.
3. Which One Should You Choose?
- Use Top-Down if you want to control the budget at a high level and distribute it.
- Use Bottom-Up if you want to build the budget based on actual component needs.
Capex Plan offers the flexibility to choose the method that fits your organizational budgeting workflow.
